Established in 1853. Nancy Hart was one of the early settlers in North Georgia. Her dramatic escapades were passed down as verbal folklore.
Originally built in 1922, the Smith-McGee was a privately-owned toll bridge across the Savannah River.
It was acquired by Georgia and South Carolina in 1926 and run as a non-toll bridge on Route 181. The Camelback Truss exhibits important features of the American System of pin connections.
